CopyKat

The CopyKat is a visual working memory task where participants are asked to observe and recall sequences of colored tiles. A grid of four tiles - Yellow, Green, Blue, and Pink - is presented, each with a unique sound. During each trial, the tiles light up in a sequence of colors, accompanied by their corresponding sounds.

The task begins with a sequence of four tiles. While the sequence is playing, the word "Watch" appears on screen, prompting participants to pay close attention. Participants then must reproduce the sequence by clicking the tiles in the same order. If the response is correct, the sequence becomes longer and more challenging. If the response is incorrect, the sequence becomes shorter if the sequence was less than 4 or stays the same if the sequence was 4 or more. The test ends after three mistakes.

Data collected:

  • Correct count: Total number of correct trials
  • Score: Total points earned from correctly identified tiles
  • Longest sequence: Maximum number of tiles correctly identified in a sequence
  • Median reaction time (for correct trials)
  • Fastest reaction time (for correct trials)

Validated:

This test has been validated in a genral adult sample, and has been used and validated in other populations such as serious mental illness and women with chronic health conditions (i.e cancer).
